Online Used Car SearchUnder a tight time frame, implemented a prototype of a used car search engine for a car dealership client (before these sites were common on the Internet). This project was a proof-of-concept mockup to show management that the system was feasible. The intent was to provide a working demo for a certain presentation at a certain date, at which time the go-ahead would be given to develop the real system. The prototype I built was so feasible that it was rolled out as the production system for several years while a replacement system was budgeted and developed. The most significant flaw of my system was that time constraints meant the system was not as extensible as a production version needed to be, and more changes had to be made than the smoke-and-mirrors code would allow. Still, the prototype had a useful production lifecycle as a stopgap until a more complete system could be designed and implemented.
