Precompiler Re-launch
Took 7-year-old C code base for a precompiler that read COBOL and PL/I source and generated code compatible with our products, and ported it to latest z/OS operating system. Our existing binaries would no longer run, so I had to recreate them from the source. I gathered and documented the source, finding at least one lost module. The original code had been built on a PC with mainframe binaries generated by a cross-assembler, so I created a mainframe build environment with the necessary JCL to compile and test with System/C (www.dignus.com). I encountered two nasty bugs, both involving memory allocation, which had not manifested in earlier releases of the operating system and compiler.
